Butsumetsu 仏滅

butsu-metsu — "Buddha's death"

Unlucky all day

Written with characters meaning the passing of the Buddha, this is the least fortunate day of the cycle. Weddings and openings are avoided, and some venues discount their Butsumetsu dates.

It is also read as the day when things end so that something new can begin, which makes it suited to clearing out, drawing a line, and starting over. Some venues discount their Butsumetsu dates, and plenty of couples choose one deliberately.
